Firestick Developer Options Not Showing? How to Get Them Back (2026)
Amazon hides Developer Options on newer Fire OS versions. Here is the seven-click trick, where the setting moved, and what to do if your model can’t show it at all.
You go to Settings, open My Fire TV, and Developer Options simply isn’t there. Nothing is broken: on recent Fire OS versions Amazon hides the menu until you unlock it. It takes ten seconds.
Step by step
- Press Home, then open Settings (the gear icon).
- Select My Fire TV.
- Select About.
- Highlight the first line, your device name (for example “Fire TV Stick 4K”).
- Press the centre Select button seven times in quick succession. A message says you are now a developer.
- Press Back. Developer Options now appears under My Fire TV.
Where is “Apps from Unknown Sources”?
Newer Fire OS versions replaced the single on/off switch with a per-app list called Install unknown apps. Open Developer Options → Install unknown apps and switch on only the app you install from, usually Downloader. Leave everything else off.
Still nothing? Check your model
Fire TV Stick (3rd gen), Lite, 4K, 4K Max and the Fire TV Cube run Fire OS and support this. Newer models running Vega OS, such as the Fire TV Stick 4K Select, only install apps from the Amazon Appstore, so there is no unknown-apps setting to find.
Check under Settings → My Fire TV → About. If it says Vega OS, look for your player in the Appstore instead.
Other reasons the menu stays hidden
- You pressed too slowly: the seven presses need to be quick.
- You highlighted a different line: it must be the device name at the top of About.
- A pending system update: install it, restart, and try again.
Once it works
With Developer Options visible you can install a player with Downloader. Use the verified codes in our Downloader codes list, or follow the full walkthrough in how to jailbreak a Firestick.
Common questions
Does unlocking Developer Options void my warranty?
No. It is a standard Amazon setting and you can switch it off again at any time.
Is ADB debugging needed?
No. For installing a player you only need Install unknown apps for Downloader.
Why did Amazon hide the menu?
To stop people changing advanced settings by accident. The seven-press unlock is Amazon’s own method.
