IPTV Live TV Not Working but VOD Works? 9 Checks

Live IPTV channels not working while movies and series still play? Isolate playlist, player, device, network and live-source problems safely.

If IPTV live TV is not working but movies and series still play, do not treat the whole service as offline. That pattern is useful evidence: your app can still open, your account can still retrieve content and your device still has an internet connection.

The fault may instead be limited to live streams, one channel group, a stale playlist, a stuck player session or the network path used by live playback. The quickest fix is to narrow the scope before changing settings.

This guide uses a diagnosis-first checklist for Firestick, Android TV and Smart TV users, with low-risk checks before resets or reinstalls.

60-second diagnosis
Confirm one VOD title plays, then test live channels from two or three different categories. If only one channel or category fails, report that specific group. If all live TV fails, refresh the playlist, restart the player/device and compare the same account on another supported device or network before clearing app data.

Why VOD can work when live TV does not

Live television and on-demand playback are different workloads. VOD plays a stored title, while live TV must keep receiving the current stream as it is delivered. They can also be exposed through different endpoints or source groups inside a service.

That means a working film does not prove every live stream is healthy. Equally, failed live TV does not automatically mean your login, Firestick or broadband connection is completely broken.

Use the difference to narrow the problem instead of reinstalling everything.

What the failure pattern suggests

Symptom Check first
One live channel fails That channel/source
One live category fails That group/source mapping
All live TV fails but VOD works Playlist/live path/player session
Live works on another device First device/player/network
Live fails everywhere, VOD works everywhere Live-side service/source issue
Live and VOD both fail Account, app, network or wider service

1. Test more than one live category

Open channels from several unrelated groups rather than testing the same category repeatedly. Try, for example, news, entertainment and another general category available in your playlist.

If one channel fails while others play, avoid changing device-wide settings. If an entire group fails but other groups work, note the category name and affected channels. A partial failure is more useful to support than a general report that “live TV is down”.

If every live channel fails while VOD remains normal, continue below.

2. Refresh the playlist before resetting the app

A cached channel list can become stale after channel names, groups or stream addresses change. Use the playlist refresh/update option in your player, then let it finish before testing live TV again.

Menu wording differs between TiviMate, IPTV Smarters and other players, so use the refresh control in your installed version rather than copying an old screenshot from the web.

If you are unsure whether the player was configured correctly in the first place, follow the device setup hub rather than deleting the profile.

3. Switch away and reopen the live stream

A player can resume from standby with an old or stuck playback session. Switch to another live channel, wait a few seconds, then return to the original one. If that does not help, fully close the player and reopen it.

On Fire TV, pressing Home may leave an application suspended. Use Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications to force-stop the affected player when necessary, then reopen it.

4. Restart the streaming device

If all live channels still fail, restart the Firestick, Android TV box or television. A restart clears temporary app and network state without deleting your playlists.

For Fire TV, Amazon includes restart and app troubleshooting among its standard steps when apps stop responding or behave unexpectedly. See Amazon Fire TV troubleshooting guidance.

5. Clear player cache, not app data

If the player remains stuck after a restart, clear its temporary cache where your device supports it. On Fire TV, open the installed-app settings and choose Clear Cache.

Avoid Clear Data as an early fix. Clearing app data can remove locally stored profiles, playlists and preferences. If VOD already works, wiping a working login before you have isolated the live-TV problem creates extra work without proving anything.

6. Compare another supported device

A controlled comparison is one of the fastest ways to separate a device problem from a live-stream problem. Respect the simultaneous-connection allowance of your plan, then test a live channel on another supported device.

Live works elsewhere: focus on the original player, device or local network path.

Live fails on both devices while VOD works on both: the live side of the service or source becomes more likely.

Only one channel fails everywhere: report that channel instead of resetting the whole setup.

7. Compare another network path

If practical, test the same supported device/account through another legitimate connection, such as a mobile hotspot for a short diagnostic check. The goal is not to assume your ISP is blocking anything; it is simply to change one variable.

If live TV works on one network but consistently fails on another while VOD remains fine, investigate the router, DNS, filtering or route on the failing connection. If the result is identical on both networks, stop changing home-network settings and continue with the source/service checks.

8. Check account and connection limits

Confirm that the subscription is active and that you are not exceeding the number of simultaneous connections included in the plan. Stop playback on other devices before retesting.

Do not assume an account problem solely because live TV fails: working VOD is evidence that at least part of the account and app path is functioning. Treat expiry and connection limits as checks, not conclusions.

TVPrime4K customers can compare the current subscription options or contact support if they are unsure how many simultaneous connections their plan includes.

9. Know when the live source needs support

After the checks above, contact support when the pattern is repeatable and clearly scoped. Useful evidence includes the device, player, whether VOD works, whether all live channels or only one group fails, the approximate time, and whether another device/network shows the same result.

That information lets support investigate the live source without asking you to repeat basic device checks.

For a different symptom where channels load but playback is a black screen, use the Firestick black-screen guide. For freezing or repeated pauses, see the Firestick buffering checklist.

Live TV not working while VOD works: FAQ

Why does VOD work but live IPTV channels do not?

Live and on-demand playback are different delivery paths. If VOD works, first test several live categories, refresh the playlist and restart the player/device. If live fails across devices while VOD remains normal, report the live-side problem to the provider.

Should I reinstall the IPTV app if only live TV is broken?

Not initially. Refresh the playlist, force-stop/restart the player, restart the device, clear cache and compare another device first. Reinstallation is more disruptive and may not affect a live-source problem.

Why does only one live channel fail?

If other channels play on the same device and network, the problem is more likely isolated to that channel or source. Note the exact channel and report it rather than resetting the app.

Can the channel list load even when live video does not play?

Yes. Loading playlist metadata is different from continuously playing a video stream. A visible channel list therefore does not prove that each live stream is currently available.

Should I clear app data to fix live TV?

Clear cache first. App data can remove saved profiles and configuration, so use it only when you are prepared to set the player up again and simpler checks have failed.
